McNerd Cookies (The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts) Book Snack Sat

Sugar cookies+sweet McNerd? Sounds like the perfect bookish combination!

Welcome to the second episode of Book Snack Sat, where I’m bringing you a different bookish recipe every single Saturday.

Today we’re chatting about The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts (hint: Lisa writes SUPER swoony guys…like make-you-blush swoony)

Recipe

Cookie Ingredients

2 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 cup of softened butter

1 egg

1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

3-4 tablespoons of milk

Cookie Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Mix flour, baking soda, and baking power in a bowl and set aside. Mix butter and sugar together in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in egg and add vanilla extract. Blend in dry ingredients, adding a little milk as needed (you may not need all of the milk, but we’ll come back to that!)

Once mixed, put dough in small balls on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper (for easy clean up…much easier than Viv trying to get rid of her summer fling!) Press down with fingers. You can put a little of the extra milk on top of the cookies before putting them in the oven (just enough to moisten them)

Bake for 8-15 minutes. Be sure to watch carefully for cookies to turn a golden color. Let sit for five minutes to cool.

Icing Ingredients

1 stick of softened unsalted butter

1/4 teaspoon of salt

2 cups of powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract (use clear so that it does not change the color of your icing)

1-3 tablespoons of milk

Icing Directions

Use a medium bowl in your mixer to combine the powdered sugar and softened butter. To soften butter, put in microwave for 15 seconds. Add in salt and vanilla extract. Add milk one table spoon at a time, as you may not need it all.

Once the cookies are cool, create your nerd glasses!

Decorating Your Cookies

Creating nerd glasses is as easy as drawing two rectangles and connecting them with a little arched line (where they sit on a person’s nose)

However, you don’t JUST have to stick to nerd glasses. We branched out an incorporated things from the story and the cover of the book!

How It Fits: Nerd glasses obviously represent our leading hottie McNerd. Surf boards and waves were used to represent the beach setting. A heart with an arrow through it represented the one on the cover. Words like “blog” and “McNerd” were used to represent our main characters. We could have even gone as far as to use a certain fandom both of these characters are partial to!

We even added in some decorations just to be pretty!

The best advice I can give you is to read the book and see what elements YOU can pull from the story to use to decorate your cookies with. Hit up the comments and let me know YOUR ideas for Vivian and Dallas-inspired cookies!

Here’s what you need to know about The Replacement Crush:

True love can’t be strategized.

After book blogger Vivian Galdi’s longtime crush pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened, Vivian creates a list of safecrushes, determined to protect her heart.

But nerd-hot Dallas, the sweet new guy in town, sends the mission and Vivian’s zing meter into chaos. While designing software for the bookstore where Vivian works, Dallas wages a counter-mission.

Operation Replacement Crush is in full effect. And Dallas is determined to take her heart off the shelf.
